Short answer: Yes. Article 12(1)(b) of Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901 covers the investor’s foreign spouse and the minor or dependent foreign children of the investor and of the spouse. For a child under a parent’s custody, the other parent’s consent is needed; without it, the decision of a court in the country where the parent habitually resides is followed (Law 5901, Art. 20(2)).
Who this applies to: families considering citizenship through a property purchase in Türkiye · As of: 31 October 2026
Who can be included?
| Family member | What the rule says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign spouse | Listed with the investor | Law 5901, Art. 12(1)(b) |
| Minor or dependent foreign child of the investor | Listed with the investor | Law 5901, Art. 12(1)(b) |
| Minor or dependent foreign child of the spouse | Listed with the investor | Law 5901, Art. 12(1)(b) |
| Residence permit | The same family members are covered by the investor residence permit | Law 6458, Art. 31(1)(j) |
Does my citizenship change my spouse’s citizenship?
No, not by itself. Acquiring Turkish citizenship by decision of the competent authority does not affect the spouse’s citizenship (Law 5901, Art. 20(2)). Your spouse is named among the people who may acquire citizenship through your investment (Art. 12(1)(b)), and the citizenship file includes documents proving the family relationship (Regulation, Art. 20(3)(ç)).
What about children?
- Consent: A child under a parent’s custody acquires citizenship if the other parent consents. Without consent, the decision of a court in the country where that parent habitually resides is followed. Children of parents who acquire citizenship together also acquire it (Law 5901, Art. 20(2)).
- How consent is given: before a notary, or before the official handling the application. Consent given before a competent foreign authority is processed under the rules for foreign documents (Regulation, Art. 68).
- Who applies for a minor: applications for minors are made by their parents or guardians (Regulation, Art. 64(2)).
- Children not included: children who were not processed with their parent may apply after reaching adulthood under Article 11 of the law (Law 5901, Art. 20(3)).
What should you check before you apply?
- The age limit and the official meaning of a “dependent” child for your family.
- Which documents prove custody, consent and the family relationship, and whether your country’s documents need an apostille in addition to a Turkish translation and notarisation.
What this does not promise
- Family members are not included automatically; each must be part of the application and meet the conditions.
- No processing time.
